Former Bursaspor coach Bijedic dies |
Former Bursaspor coach Nedzad Bijedic passed away in his hometown of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on Monday, aged 51, due to leukemia. An official from the Turkish national football team, Adnan Örnek, who was close to Bijedic, told the Anatolia news agency that the condition of Bijedic’s health had been improving lately, and that he was surprised and upset to hear of his death. “He was a legendary man in Turkish football history and he was very much appreciated. We are sorry,” he said. Bijedic played for Bursaspor in the 1987-1988 season, scoring 17 goals. After his successful run with Bursaspor, he was nicknamed “the Emperor” by fans. He went on to coach several Turkish teams, including Bursaspor, Karabükspor and Diyarbakırspor. Meanwhile, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) issued a message offering its condolences upon Bijedic’s death.
